I'm Curious ???
What chapter are you on? So far, how do you feel about the book's main character - Anette?

I’m currently on chapter 4. So far I think Anette is like a lot of us in having something that we do not want anyone to find out about. I also think Anette is like a lot of us women out here always giving so much of ourselves that we end up not taking care of self because we are so busy taking care of everyone else.
I absolutely loved this book. An amazing job is done accurately portraying some of the negatives that are new normals at our churches. However, I did not care for Annette.
The Preacher’s daughter/wife’s misery was of her own creation for the most part. She reveled in an image and played the victim in her mind. In some cases she is correct but not all.
Joshua’s affair destroyed her love for him and her image of being the perfect wife. How does Annette respond? She "forgives"and takes her husband back. But she engages in an entanglement with Joshua’s best friend in a bed in Joshua’s home!. I cannot overlook John is a Deacon and married. Is it OK to do unto Lydia as it was done to you? It does not matter whether or not John’s marriage was rocky or not. Annette was deeply hurt so why chance passing this pain onward?
Your parents force you to put your child up for adoption at 15. You and Brandon speak on her birthday every year. Why did you not ever search for your daughter? You accuse your father of loving his image in the community more than you. It appears your image in the community is more important than the loss of your child.
And when Ashlee contacts you, do you stop what you are doing and rush to her? No, you wait for Brandon. You also do not understand her anger but you want your mother to understand yours.
Brandon makes you aware of a possible problem with Ashlee but you cut the call short because John is home. I would be hungry for details about my child!
Do you even try to make her apart of your life? I guess I missed the conversation informing Josh Jr and Jasmine about their beloved sister. Oh yeah..The perfect wife only told her husband and lover. Cannot have dust on her pedestal.
John ends his turbulent marriage and proposes. You proclaim in secret you do not love Joshua but you want him to leave you. In other words you still do not have a problem living a liem
Her mother warned her Joshua was not conducting church business until all hours of the night. In other words she knew but wanted to protect her image. The same applies when she went off on John for cutting for the pastor. Annette could have gotten an STD from John/Lydia in addition to Joshua.
I also found it interesting this church counselor learned more about forgiveness from another counselor than the Word of God. Annette’s road to finding herself was fabulous in this book and I look forward to her lfinding God in the next journey.
